Re-Opening Plan

SDES Re-Opening Plan
Posted on 08/19/2020

To all SDES parents:

I hope all of you received the great news!  Elementary school students who wish to participate in Traditional Learning (in the school-classroom instruction) will return on Tuesday, September 8th. It will be great to have students back. They have been missed! We have been working diligently to establish new safety procedures for our staff and students. Visitors will not be allowed in the building.

Following is the schedule for the Douglas County Elementary School re-entry plan. Please keep in mind that plans can and will be modified depending upon the spread of COVID-19 in the community, a building or a classroom.

August 17 – September 4             Students will receive digital instruction.

*September 8        Elementary students who selected the Traditional Learning model will return to school for in-person instruction Tuesday through Thursday, with online lessons from home on Friday. After the week of Labor Day, students will attend school for in-person instruction Monday through Thursday. Students who signed up for School-Based Digital Learning (SBDL) will continue to receive online instruction at home. If you chose Traditional Learning but would like to remain SBDL (Digital), please let us know so we can plan accordingly.

Please note the following details:

  • Custodians will deep clean all buildings on Fridays while students participate in online lessons from home (no students or staff in the school building on Fridays).
  • Students will have the option of SBDL (Digital Learning) Monday through Friday for the entire school year.

Please also note that the Douglas County School System has changed guidance regarding face coverings. Students, staff members and guests are now required to wear a face covering when on a school bus or in a school building. We will continue to follow guidance from local and state public health departments, and we will add protocols as needed to enhance safety.

The Elementary School day will start at 7:40 and conclude at 2:25. Car riders can be dropped off, in the car rider line only, from 7:00 a.m. until 7:35 a.m. Student and staff temperatures will be taken when entering the building. Parents will be notified if a student has a temperature at any point during the school day. We ask that all students be in their classrooms at 7:40 for instruction to begin. Students entering the classroom after 7:40 are considered tardy. For students choosing to continue digital learning the school hours will be the same as traditional (7:40-2:25).  ASP (After School Program) will also start on September 8th. Registration for ASP is to be completed on-line prior to staying in ASP.

*** It is essential that we know how your child will be going home each day (car rider, bus or ASP).
